Weekly Jetsam 3.4.23
a little on the lighter and shorter side this week. Sharing a bedtime podcast, Eugene Levy & a quote from Martha Beck.
Good morning!
I typically don’t have any trouble when it comes to writing my Sunday newsletter. In fact, it is often the most enjoyable one for me to write. It’s laidback and I like the chance to think back on my week and pull together all the little fun nuggets I’ve come across. I still find it enjoyable even if no one read it! This week was a little different.
When I sat down to write this week’s I was coming up empty. There weren’t any grand upheavals in my schedule to blame, but truthfully the mismanagement of my creative brain. I spent a lot of time creating & in thought and did not set enough healthy boundaries for myself. My screen time was also through the roof and that really throws off my energy. Flow can be a great thing, but I have a lot of practice to do when it comes to finding a good balance. Layer in a few random nights of crappy sleep and here we are.
That being said, here’s a short little round-up of this week’s favorites.
PS: I’m giving away 3 copes of Lessons from Nature. You can enter here.
I typically don’t have any trouble falling asleep, but this week was obnoxious. I woke up at 2:30 one night and then didn’t fall asleep until 2:30 another. For someone who typically falls asleep within 10 minutes of their head hitting the pillow, it was not good. I caught myself headed down the road of another painful night when I remembered how helpful the Nothing Much Happens podcast was when I went through a previous stretch of rocky sleep.
I’ll often listen to a meditation before bed, but I might add this podcast back into the rotation. Kathryn Nicolai has perfected the art of a story that is captivating enough to shut your brain off, but told in a way that won’t keep you awake.
After getting home from a writing group yesterday, I was committed to turning off that part of my brain for a bit. I started watching Eugene Levy’s new series, The Reluctant Traveler and it was exactly what I needed. Watching anything Eugene Levy or his little comedic crew does is my idea of comfort TV. If you’re looking for something harmless, a little heartwarming and humorous check it out.
On a less humorous note, in one of last week’s newsletters, (Investing in yourself is the best money you’ll spend), I mentioned a coaching program I did at the end of last year.
This week I hopped on a Zoom call with Gabby, who ran the program and is an amazing human, to share a little about my experience. If you’re interested in a learning a little more about me and my journey, here’s the link! Fun fact, this newsletter was born as a result!
I’ll compensate for the lack of substance in this newsletter with a mic drop quote from Martha Beck.
