Happy Sunday! How are you holding up?
It seems like this summer has been a little turbulent for a lot of people I’ve been talking to. I miss the days when this season felt like it would last for eternity. It takes more deliberate energy as an adult to replicate that feeling of freedom. For me, that’s looked like allowing the chores in the house (the endless vacuuming that comes with 3 dogs, the dusting, the folding of laundry) to fall a little to the wayside so I can spend more time being present in my interactions with others and with this summer season. We can’t do it all and no one minds my wrinkled t-shirt, or if they do they’re kind enough not to say so. Today, I’m off to spend the day on the beach and planning on flying a kite for the first time in years. I hope that you’ve found a little balance as well.
5 Things I Want to Share:
I enjoyed this episode of
. It’s always a pleasure to listen to Pádraig Ó Tuama, but this episode and poem by Ross Gay reminded me of the tremendous value of slowing down and being present for the simplest of tasks—like buttoning a shirt. My garden has lacked color this year. Many of my favorite plants like my hydrangeas, had a slow start if any because of the strange weather patterns. But this week brought blooms from my cone flower, black eyed susan, and my cardinal flower.
This Instagram account that creates dog videos with AI David Attenborough narration has provided me with so much joy.
During my arrive meetup yesterday someone reminded me of doshas. It’s not something I know a lot about, but I did know my type once upon a time. It sparked my interest to go home and figure it out again. The quiz doesn’t take long and gave me some new things to consider. Check it out.
Since I started running mindfulness meetups, I’ve been experimenting with creating guided meditations. It’s been a way for me to mess around with audio recording & editing (I have a long way to go with that one) and also explore other parts of myself. It honestly feels a little vulnerable throwing these out here & reminds me of when I started writing this newsletter. But here is one that uses visualization of fire to help you let go of something that is no longer serving you.
