JUNE.
This is the month with the most daylight in the Northern Hemisphere—what could be better? I have a confession to make though, I have a bad habit for looking at the calendar too much this time of year. My inner monologue can quickly turn to: THERE’S ONLY 12 GOOD WEEKS HERE. I MUST DO ALL THE THINGS. (#SCARCITY). I know when I let that belief take up the most space, I miss out on what’s right in front of me. Some of my shares this week support my desire to spend more time in intentional presence and abundance this summer.
In personal news…
I found a grocery store I can tolerate walking into, shoutout to ALDI and snagged a cold brewer for $9.99. My mason jars work great for my bagged tea, but I’m excited for more cold brewed loose leaf tea and the occasional coffee this summer. Anyone have some favorite teas?
I also had a magical nature day on Thursday. I came across a dinosaur (aka a snapping turtle) crossing the road, one snapper in a yard laying eggs (an impressive feat), and then another bubbling along next to me as I paddled around on my kayak for the first time this year. If you follow me on Instagram, I posted about it throughout the day. It was fantastic.
Newsletter updates & love
Lastly, I just want to say THANK YOU. I don’t write with the intention of gaining subscribers. I write with the intention of building a community & hopefully giving people a nugget or two to think about. To be completely transparent, while I’ve had a slight uptick in subscribers recently, for a few months it stalled. But while the number of people reading my newsletter didn’t grow, the quality of the interactions I was having with you all did. That’s the more important part. This past week, I received an email that made me cry, an invitation to an online event that couldn’t be more me, and so many thoughtful comments. So if you’re new here, welcome! If you’ve been around for a bit, thank you.
I am making one small shift as we move into summer. I’m going to post twice a week, not three times. You can expect these Sunday emails along with one on Wednesdays. I am just shifting my energies around a little bit so I can be my best self to all the things that I am invested in.
As always, I would love to hear the comment you’ve enjoyed consuming this week! Drop a comment!
Chronos and Kairos: two ways to measure time
You know when you’ve heard of concepts, but the first time you’re exposed to them they don’t carry a lot of meaning? But then sometimes you’re exposed again and you have that moment of, “YES. OMG YES!”. I think the universe knew my desire to embrace more ‘kairos’ and less ‘chronos’. Two newsletters on this topic appeared on my feed within days of each other. Are you more swinging towards more ‘kairos’ or ‘chronos’ right now?
When I Take Time to ‘Just Be’—
Anxiety and Mermaids
Don’t worry these are two different things to watch. Although to be fair, anxiety is universal and the mermaids did exhibit quite a bit.
Anxious Nation
As someone who has struggled with anxiety and worked directly with adolescents my whole career (including those hospitalized for mental health), I felt compelled to watch this new documentary. It was really well done and I think it needs to be a universal watch.
MerPeople- Netflix
This was a bit of an uncharacteristic watch for me. But I love learning about humans, and this is a whole subculture I was totally unaware of. Super interesting!
The Seagulls- Radio Lab
Loved this episode! Here’s the description:
In the 1970s, as LGBTQ+ people in the United States faced conservatives whose top argument was that homosexuality is “unnatural,” a pair of young scientists discovered on a tiny island off the coast of California a colony of seagulls that included… a significant number of lesbian couples making nests and raising chicks together. The article that followed upended the culture’s understanding of what’s natural and took the discourse on homosexuality in a whole new direction.
Storm Boy- Xavier Rudd
Stumbled across this song & it’s basically my current vision board.
My journal, Lessons from Nature is now out. You can find it here.

Omg, that turtle is huge! And those are great recommendations!! I forgot about anxious nation & will definitely watch that soon - I’m pretty sure Lynn Lyons is in it and I’ve been listening to her podcast religiously for the last 8 months after one of my kids had a panic attack. The merpeople series looks so fun 😂🤩
Maggie, I always enjoy your work. Twice a week is perfect. You need time to enjoy the summer. D
