Weekly Jetsam 1.15.2023
The universe clearly had a message for me this week...loving yourself. I'm sharing Sonya Renee Taylor, Lizzo, and Susan David with you this morning.
Good morning! Does anyone know where the sun is? Anyways…
My weekly round-up has a theme this week…loving yourself. It wasn’t until I sat down to write this that I realized the connection. Even my shopping trip yesterday aligned with what the universe had in mind for me:

Before I dive in, I have two announcements…
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: I set a goal to have 100 subscribers by today and I’ve actually surpassed that goal. Thank you to everyone who has shared my newsletter with a friend. I feel like I am just warming up and am so grateful that people are finding value in my content. I’m truly excited to see how Finding the Flotsam will continue to evolve. I’ll invite you to interact with these blue buttons if you haven’t already...
JOURNAL UPDATE: I hinted last week that I would be publishing a journal and I want to give you a sneak peek. If you want to expand your mindfulness practice, or deepen your connection with nature and yourself, this is for you. I’d love to know what you think! Leave me a note in the comments!
Lastly, thank you for all the love on my Friday the 13th post & the participation on the poll in FEAR (Read & Reflect #6). Seeing people interact with my content warms my heart.
Okay, now onto the good stuff…
Wholeheartedly,
Maggie
Podcasts:
This episode of “We Can Do Hard Things” was SO good. I’m planning to go back and listen with a notebook and post it notes. If you listen, be prepared to have your mind blown.
They interviewed Sonya Renee Taylor and I was literally screaming YES over and over again as she discussed what she calls, “radical self-love”. I’m including her TED Talk below, but just let this quote from it sink in…
“As we learn to make peace with our bodies and make peace with other people’s bodies, we create an opening for creating a more just and equitable world. Every time you call truce with your body, you interrupt a system of violence and power that profits off of your self-hate.”
Sonya Renee Taylor
Documentary:
Earlier this week, I watched Love, Lizzo and 5 minutes into it I sent my HBO credentials to a friend demanding she watch it.
Lizzo has repeatedly shared thoughts that I believed were unique to my brain, like wishing she could cut chunks of her body off when she was younger.
There’s one scene in the documentary where she is talking with her dancers and discussing “taking up space” and I just crumbled.
Quotes:
Finally, Susan David, author of Emotional Agility, has been posting a series of quotes on Instagram that have really resonated. Here are two that I’ve loved this week. I think I have one subscriber out there who is going to love all the ‘value talk’ in them:
BONUS:
Here’s a cute picture of my dog, Tartar Sauce, providing moral support during a writing break (and yes, I pretty much write exclusively sitting on the floor).
