Wanting More

a list & reflection about the power of more

I received a beautiful gift from a friend recently and it’s also turned out to be one for thousands of others (you can watch the video here). It was the encouragement to name what I want MORE of. Sometimes when I’m seeking inspiration or am stuck I feel the urge to pull out a thesaurus and turn the pages until sometimes resonates. In this case, my friend’s question “what do you want more of” felt like an invitation I finally could RSVP ‘yes’ to. Other invites, like “what do you want” or “what lights you up” felt too lofty and didn’t quite satiate the scarcity narrative that’s been running rampant in my mind. Identifying what I want more of, didn’t feel confrontational, or lofty—it just landed.

Ironically, this same friend and I stood in the aisle of a store yesterday rolling our eyes at a mutual hangup around “originality” in our content creation. But her subtle shift in words that she first used with me, and then the internet serves as a powerful reminder that there is room and a NEED for each of our voices in this world. We each hold the metaphorical pen slightly different, and therefore our deliveries are all unique and may just save someone one day.

As far as what I want more of, here’s a snippet:

Novelty: I want more museums, shows, new outdoor spaces to explore, new foods to taste.
Books: I want to read more. I want to dedicate a chunk of time each day to thumbing through someone else’s thoughts and world so I can learn more about mine.
Homecooked Meals: I want to eat more well-rounded tasty things, that I don’t need to make. When someone else cooks me something it just nourishes me in ways that I can’t easily replicate myself.
Intentional Spaciousness: I want more chunks of time to get lost in bird song, to write, or stare at the shadows on my kitchen floor.
Art: I want to make more art. My hands are too accustomed to scrolling. I want them to remember they can move in other ways too.
To Bear Witness: I want to continue to take on more brave & curious clients so that I can bear witness to the magic that happens when someone commits to themselves and their healing.
Laughter: I want more deep, wheezing, belly aching laughter.
1:1 Time: I want more 1:1 time with the people close to me. The kind of time that is mostly unscheduled and starts with a beach walk and ends with a long coffee chat.
Travel: I want to take more trips. Long, short. Close, far. It doesn’t matter. My brain and heart are hungry to see more of what’s out there.
Movement: I want more gentle movement to help shake and integrate off the dust that’s settled in my soul the last few months.

I believe that hardest step is often taking the leap to admit what we want more of, but that the instant we do that, the ball is in motion. So tell me, what do you want more of right now?
