What will I do without you?
There is no way to replace you during this lifetime.
What will shelter me?
The shriveled leaf shatters under the weight of my foot.
How can something so strong simply wither away?
Limbs weakening. Veins thinning.
How much longer do we have?
The cardinal’s song rings out sweetly overhead.
Are you in pain?
I’m not sure how to spend the time we have left.
What matters most to you?
My hand moves over the rough bark.
What could I have done differently?
There are so many moments we will never get back.
You’ll still be with me, right? I ask the old oak tree.
Imagine you have limited time left with someone or something that is important to you. How would you choose to spend that time? What activities, conversations, or moments would you prioritize? How can you bring more awareness and presence to the time you have with the people and things you cherish?
Consider something in your life that you perceive as strong or enduring. How would you feel if it were to wither away or decline? Reflect on the nature of impermanence and change. How can you find acceptance and make the most of each moment despite the inevitability of change?
