FINDING THE ANCHORS (Read & Reflect #1)
Where do we start when our heads feel like this pile? Because that’s exactly what my head has felt like more often than not these last few months.
They were subtle, but signs of spring were in the air. The sun emerged again and that meant I packed a bag for a few hours at the beach.
The nice thing about this time of year is that beach treasures aren’t fought over. The tourists haven’t arrived yet, so the sand is always loaded with items to ponder. It wasn’t the piece of blue sea glass that was the highlight of my walk, but instead this massive tangle that undoubtedly made its way onto land during the blizzard a few weeks ago.
Just like my seagull friends squawking overhead, it got me thinking.
Where do we start when our heads feel like this pile? Because that’s exactly what my head has felt like more often than not these last few months.
Where do we start, when we fear unraveling the yellow rope first will tighten the white rope and therefore inadvertently cut off our chances of ever accessing the lobster pot?
I think we first look for the anchors. In this mangled mess there’s at least two anchors.
If we can identify those first and find something to grab onto or go back to when we start unraveling I think that there’s always still hope, no matter how messy the pile seems.
Ideas for Reflection:
Please share your thoughts in the comments if you feel called to share.
Write about your pile of ropes. What exactly is in your tangle?
What are the metaphorical or tangible anchors in your life? Is it a faithful pet or your ability to find your breath?
What rope in your pile would be the safest to start tugging on? How does it feel to first pick it up?
I have a pile of tangles, for several years now. I’m working on the pile but I’m just getting started. One day at a time.
