I’m not a “death anniversary” type of person….
with one exception—my brother Sam’s: Friday January 13th, 2017.
He died by suicide seven years ago at 23.
His death was preventable, so my acknowledgment comes not from a place of sorrow, but one of hope and action.
Today:
I hope you know you matter.
I hope you know that on the days you feel unseen and unheard that the birds and soil know exactly who you are. They look forward to seeing and feeling you.
I hope you know that you are not broken, and that you are more than your struggle even if that’s all you know in this moment.
I hope you know you have choices, even when there feels like there are none….there are, I promise.
Check in on someone today.
Give them a reason to hope.
And if you need someone to check in on you, reach out. There’s someone who will be there to listen: https://988lifeline.org/talk-to-someone-now/
